The views are spectacular, the air is clean and the scenery is
breathtaking. Combine this with a family-owned hiker-friendly spa hotel
in the hills of Bolzano, deep in the unique, charismatic and renowned
region of South Tyrol, on the Austrian/Italian border. What else do you
need for an unbelievable week in the mountains, at a price as low as any
in Europe?! We will enjoy eight days of walking and day hiking on a
variety of easy to moderate trails with distances of 8 - 14km, mostly
soft footing with occasional rocky stretches, and mild elevation gains
of 400-600m. Most of our trailheads are within walking distance of our
hotel in Oberbozen. Others are a short distance away and may use a cable
car to get us up the mountain where, after a short but vigorous walk, we
will be rewarded with spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the
Dolomites and other of the region's mountain ranges. In addition to
walking and hiking, there are some sightseeing opportunities. We will
spend a day exploring the region's capital city Bolzano, home of Otzi
the Ice Man, stored at the city's Museum of Archeology. The city also
boasts a Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as shops,
cafes, and parks. We will take a day bus excursion along the Great
Dolomite Road, stopping for short hikes to vantage points and visiting a
small mountain village whose town-centre is brimming with local
woodworking shops typical of the area. In the event of inclement
weather, we will take day train trips to Trentino or Verona or enjoy the
spa services at the hotel (some are at extra charge). Trip Price: $1595
includes 8 night's accommodations, breakfast, dinner, The Ritten Card
(which provides free public regional transport (bus and train) in South
Tyrol, entrance to 88 museums and access to the Rittenhorn cable car.
Price does not include air travel of approximately $800-1,000, bus/train
transfer to Bolzano from your European arrival city (most likely Munich
or Milan) or first day's cable car from Bolzano to Oberbozen.
