Combine this with a family-owned hiker-friendly spa hotel in the hills of Bolzano, deep in the unique, charismatic and renowned region of South Tyrol, on the Austrian/Italian border. What else do you need for an unbelievable week in the mountains, at a price as low as any in Europe?! We will enjoy eight days of walking and day hiking on a variety of easy to moderate trails with distances of 8 - 14km, mostly soft footing with occasional rocky stretches, and mild elevation gains of 400-600m. Most of our trailheads are within walking distance of our hotel in Oberbozen. Others are a short distance away and may use a cable car to get us up the mountain where, after a short but vigorous walk, we will be rewarded with spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Dolomites and other of the region's mountain ranges. In addition to walking and hiking, there are some sightseeing opportunities. We will spend a day exploring the region's capital city Bolzano, home of Otzi the Ice Man, stored at the city's Museum of Archeology. The city also boasts a Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as shops, cafes, and parks. We will take a day bus excursion along the Great Dolomite Road, stopping for short hikes to vantage points and visiting a small mountain village whose town-centre is brimming with local woodworking shops typical of the area. In the event of inclement weather, we will take day train trips to Trentino or Verona or enjoy the spa services at the hotel (some are at extra charge).
